Parking Instructions:
-
Parents & Visitors: We kindly ask that you park in the High School parking lot across the street. This is for the safety of all our swimmers, and ease of traffic.
Arrival:
-
Arrival Time: Please arrive at least 10 minutes early to allow time to find your way around and get your child ready for their lesson.
-
Where to go: Once you arrive, head to the bleachers and walk to the record board end. Parents are required to remain in the bleachers during all lessons.
-
Restrooms/Changing: The front lobby restrooms are available if your child needs to changer before lessons begin.
What to Expect:
The first day can be a whirlwind, especially for new swimmers. We appreciate your patience as students get comfortable with their instructor, learn the routine, and get to know their instructor and classmates.
All of our instructors follow a set curriculum designed to build skills in a structured and predictable way. Each lesson will become easier and more effective as students begin to understand what to expect.
Instructor Assurance:
Classes will be conducted exclusively by our instructors. You can relax and observe from our bleachers. Additionally, there will always be at least one certified lifeguard teaching or on deck to ensure the safety of your children.
At this time, we have 4 female instructors, 5 including Coach Joy and one back-up male instructor. All are Red Cross Lifeguard Certified. I do my best to create a consistent teacher for all of our students but if your typical instructor is out they may have a change in instructor.
What to Bring:
-
Swimsuit - This is required for all swimmers. Secure, 1 piece swimsuit, PLEASE!
-
Wetsuits may be helpful for our younger swimmers or ones that get too cold during their lesson.
-
Seaskin Kids wetsuit, Short Sleeve is an option if you feel they NEED IT. Can be found on Amazon. Wetsuits do create extra buoyancy that can give a false sense of security and skill level.
-
-
Towel
-
Goggles - These are optional. All beginner swimmers and lessons will not use them initially to help them become comfortable with water on their face and in their eyes. Once they can pass our "goggle test" they may use goggles if they would like.
-
"Goggle Test" - They must be able to glide comfortably and kick without goggles to their instructor and back to the wall.
-
If you do choose to bring goggles: NO GOGGLES WITH A NOSEPIECE
-
Our Indoor Facility:
We have an indoor, grounded facility and do not cancel lessons due to thunder/lightning. This ensures a consistent schedule. In the event of unsafe weather conditions, we may cancel lessons, and an email will be sent out. These lesson cancellations will always be refunded or a make-up will be offered.
Calendar and Updates:
While we don't anticipate any other schedule changes, please keep an eye on your email for any updates or changes to lessons. Here is the Google Calendar Link (Link Here). It will be updated with any changes or additional information regarding make-up lessons, cancellations, or other modifications. Any cancellations on our part will be credited, refunded or made up.
The Lessons Program Calendar will be updated with session dates, no-class days, facility events, lesson cancellations, and make-up lessons. You can even add the Google Calendar to your own so you do not miss a thing!!
Make-Up Policy:
Please email me before the lesson to receive a make-up lesson offer. If you are able to give me more advanced notice of absence, that is always EXTREMELY helpful.
-
One make-up per session
-
All make-up lessons must be completed before the session's end.
-
Please refer to our Refund & Cancellation Policy for more information.
Our Teaching Philosophy:
Slow and Steady wins the race!
At the heart of our philosophy is trust—between instructor and student. We are not a survival swim school. That means:
-
We do not dunk or drop screaming, crying children into the water.
-
We encourage and gently challenge every swimmer during each lesson.
Our goal is to build skills with confidence and care. Here’s what that looks like:
-
We work on getting their eyes in, blowing mouth and nose bubbles, and pouring water over their head.
-
We introduce short dunks and breath control only when the child is calm—not crying or screaming—and we always follow up with lots of praise.
-
If a child is upset or struggling, we guide them through the motions with their face above water, so when they’re ready, they know exactly what to do.
-
Consistency is key—we aim to keep every child in the water for the full lesson, even if they’re hesitant to participate fully. That time builds familiarity and comfort.
If you ever feel your child needs to end a lesson early, simply come to the railing and let us know.
Please don’t hesitate to reach out! If you have questions or concerns about your child’s instructor or their progress, you can email me or come talk to me directly—Coach Joy.
On the flip side, we also have beginner students who are confident and progress quickly. We tailor our teaching to each individual, not just the class as a whole. If your swimmer is ready, we will push them to improve technique (NO SLOPPY SWIMMING), build strength, and gain independence.
Team Messages & Communication:
When there is a last-minute practice change (the day of), we send out a notification through our website’s text messaging system, along with an email and a push notification. These last-minute changes are usually due to unexpected weather conditions or pool equipment issues that can cause an unplanned pool closure.
If you would like to receive the above-type messages by text message, you must log in to your account profile on the website and set it up per the below:
-
Make sure your cell phone number is in the "Mobile/SMS" field.
-
Your Cell Phone "Carrier" must be selected.
-
You must verify the number through the verification process. It must show as "verified", or you will not receive messages through the system by text message. If it shows unverified, click on it to do the verification.
Normally, the only 2 items that we use the text messaging system for are:
-
Last-minute practice changes, as noted above
-
A short message letting you know an email has been sent out regarding general lesson information or session overview.
The system allows up to 2 phone numbers to be set up for text messages for each family account. Any time you make a change in your account profile, be sure to select "Save Changes" at the bottom of that page to save any changes you have made.
The system allows you to have up to four email addresses on your account, including the primary email used for logging in. If you would like to add additional email addresses to receive announcements, you can do so through your account or account profile by adding any additional emails you wish.
